Violence in Sports, Agressive Behavior and Martial Arts
Violence in Sports Introduction In general, the society condemns all kinds of violence, but in sport violence is quite normal to a certain extent. If, for example, players verbally or physically attack the judge, he will not punish them for it in any way. The rules also require players not to injure each other during the games. However, the boundaries between valid and invalid actions are blurred.

Conservative Views on Immigration Reform
In 2006, liberal documentarian Morgan Spurlock devoted a segment of his show 30 Days Latest Developments His resolve may seem surprising, considering how close he became with the Gonzalez family, but his position was vilified in 2009 as a rash of kidnappings occurred in Arizona as a direct result of illegal immigration. Members of Mexican drug cartels, in the US illegally, would kidnap American citizens for ransom, and send the money across the border, where its value was inflated. While the kidnap victims were often the relative of a drug-trafficker, they were just as often the relative of an immigrant smuggler. Phoenix became the kidnap capitol of the US in 2009, with more incidents than any city in the world -- except for Mexico City.Immigrant smuggling has become more popular in US states bordering Mexico because a load of 30 immigrants can net the smuggler anywhere from $45,000 to $75,000.Very often, conservatives favoring immigration reform will couch the issue in terms of national security. Illegal immigration goes well beyond the US/Mexico border, and kidnapping isnt the only pr oblem. In the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, it was revealed that all 19 hijackers entered the US with valid documents. Some, however, had committed fraud to obtain them. The fraud was easily perpetrated thanks to glaring and easy-to-fix loopholes in the US visa system. Background The issue of illegal immigration is very different from the issue of immigration itself. While most conservatives have no problem with immigrants, there are conflicting opinions about illegal aliens. Conservative opinions are as complex as the issue itself.So-called law and order conservatives favor tightening the US border and deporting illegal aliens back to their countries of origin -- wherever they may be. Reflecting the growing dependency on illegal labor in the US, so-called business interest conservatives favor easing immigration restrictions and acknowledging the economic importance of immigrant workers. Americans willing to work hard should be able to make a decent living.-- President Barack Obama to One of the major contributing factors to illegal immigration is the fact that the employment rate in Mexico, which has never been especially sturdy, is reaching alarming lows. Solutions Resolving illegal immigration isnt easy. For example, most people, even immigration reform advocates, would agree that denying anyone emergency medical care is morally wrong. Yet, they would also agree that access to American medical care shouldnt be a perk for illegal immigrants -- and yet it is. Illegal laborers injured during the course of a menial job are treated by topnotch American physicians.Separating families is also morally wrong, yet when two illegal aliens have a child in America, the child becomes a US citizen, which means deporting the parents creates an American orphan. Heres an example of illegal aliens accessing US medical facilities, and also creating an avenue to permanent US residency without the necessity of becoming an American citizen.Americans consider things like medical care and family unity basic human rights, but for many immigrants who arent afforded the same rights in their countries of origin, these rights are often seen as rewards for making it to Ameri ca.br/>While rewarding people who come to America illegally only encourages more people to come illegally, the solution is not to deny them their basic human rights. If the giant moat we call the Atlantic Ocean isnt enough to deter illegal immigration, building bigger and stronger fences at the US/Mexico border wont be either. As conservative humorist PJ ORourke observed, Fence the border and give a huge boost to the Mexican ladder industry.About the only viable solution to the problem of illegal immigration is removing the incentive to emigrate to America. If people have no reason to leave home, they wont. Poverty, persecution and opportunity are the main reasons people flee their country of origin. Better foreign aid and a more engaged foreign policy may be the only options to stem the tide of illegal immigration. The Trouble With Amnesty From USAmnesty.org: An amnesty for illegal aliens forgives their acts of illegal immigration and implicitly forgives other related illegal acts such as driving and working with false documents. The result of an amnesty is that large numbers of foreigners who illegally gained entry into the United States are rewarded with legal status (Green Card) for breaking immigration laws. Where It Stands Liberals claim that resident illegals do pay taxes, albeit indirectly. When they pay rent, their landlord uses that money to pay property taxes. When they buy groceries, clothing or other household items, they pay sales tax. This, the liberals say, supports the economy. What they do not realize, however, is how much illegal immigration costs as a result of the taxes illegal immigrants do not pay.For example, when children are brought into the country illegally and use the American educational system, their parents are not paying the local municipal taxes that provide for their childrens education. The problems are more than financial, however. As weve shown, American citizens in the employment sector are denied opportunities every day thanks to illegal immigration. Opportunities are also blocked in the academic community, as well. A college mandated to meet a racial quota may reject an American citizen or a legal immigrant in favor of an illegal immigrant with the appropriate cultural background.br/>Despite the urgent need to pass comprehensive immigration reform, President Barack Obama recently announced his administration will do nothing to address the problem this year. Somehow Obama believes the trouble with the economy and the trouble with immigration are mutually exclusive.Dont expect to see much from the Obama administration on immigration reform at all, unless it is to ease the way for illegals. There are rumors that Obama will make some sort of policy statement regarding illegal immigration in May.Its important to remember that in 2006, Obamas support for a national amnesty movement was apparent as he marched down the streets of Chicago arm-in-arm with illegal immigrants. Then, last year, he promised Latinos that he would develop a plan to make legal status possible for an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants. If the rumors are true, conservatives should brace themselves for a proposal from the administration along these lines.

The Downfall Of Affirmative Action - 1317 Words
Downfall of Affirmative Action Many colleges in United States are composed of an ethnically diverse student body. One of the reasons why the student body is full of diversity is because of the Affirmative Action. It is the policy that gives a special incentives to minorities and women to help promote diversity in school. Though it is a great idea to promote diversity in every college in United States, it is also a bad idea to continue this system. Many ââ¬Å"Aâ⬠students who are not minorities tend to get the same treatment as the ââ¬Å"Bâ⬠students who are minorities. Although accepted into school, these students who barely met the minimum criteria may have a tougher time at school because they may not be able to keep up with the pace of the classes since the schools have high expectations of its students. Furthermore, students who have worked hard to get good grades might be overlooked because the students who have lower grades will be accepted simply to fulfill the quo ta. Although promoting affirmative action is a great idea to seek diversity through different views from many different ethnicities, it will also take away peopleââ¬â¢s hard work, as well as producing more drop out students since they cannot keep up with what the university is expecting from them. Therefore, it is not morally justifiable or socially beneficial for the students since they may have a lower chance of succeeding at school. Listening to Music free essay sample
High School I propose, as a student, that listening to music while studying is academically beneficial based on scientific fact. Have you ever listened to music while studying? Maybe you hummed a song? Well, it has been tested and shown that while listening to music students have a slower thought process, which inevitably has led to a slower, and a much higher understanding of each topic. It was also shown that when a student listens to music while studying they are working both sides of the brain ND that causes for a deeper thought, memorization, and attention. I chose this topic because my sister and I continuously disagree about whether or not I may listen to music while I study. I always tell her; there is information out there that proves that when you listen to music your attention span rises, your memorization becomes clearer and there Is a deeper thought behind what you are reading or doing. We will write a custom essay sample on Listening to Music or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Listening to music involves multitasking, which leads to slow mental processing, which leads to better memorization, and memorization is a key part of successful studying. If you are anything like my sister, you may think music is a distraction, but It Is actually a helper. Maguire university Professor William Forded Thompson and his team conducted an experiment in which they asked students to read a passage of text while listening to Mozart piano sonata. The music was altered to be soft or loud, fast or slow. What was the result? Students who read while listening to soft slow music performed better In the study. But what about In real life? If you are not listening to Mozart, are there sully benefits to listening to music while o study? To help show that there is, I asked a close friend to explain how music Is beneficial to her. Jamie Pontoons, Junior at Murray High School, who enjoys music genres Like Electronic and Folk Rock, had this to say in response to some questions. I asked If she listened to music while she studied. Pontoons replied with a Yes, I always listen to music whether Im doing homework or studying. I then asked, How does it help you? Pontoons responded with Music keeps me motivated and awake. It gives me something to keep pace with, something to follow. Obviously, Jamie and I see eye to eye, although we listen to different genres of music. However, as they say, there are always two sides to every story. For every published article or study proving that listening to music is beneficial, there is one proving that it is not. If you were to ask Los Angels Times writer Alone Dawson about her thoughts on the subject, she might answer with a question Does it seem too good to be true? (Dawson, 2012) Dawson asks this in an article she wrote about the advertised benefits, in contrast to the actual benefits, of skin care products. While this paper is not about cosmetics, Dawson illustrates the importance of looking at all of the Information available while researching a specific topic. For example, In an experiment done by researchers at the university of Wales Institute, Cardiff In the united Kingdom, 25 people between the ages of 18-30 would try to memorize and 1 OFF they found that the participants performed worse while listening to music. They say that music is a cognitive disruptor resulting in confusion and causing the participants to get thrown off by the changing in words. CNN, 2010) While this duty may appear to support my sisters opinion on the matter, it is important to point out that the participant s preference in music was not considered. I might have even failed this experiment if I had to listen to my least favorite genre of music, which is Country, as opposed to my favorite genre of music, Rock. So let us talk about Rock since it is specific to my argument. In 2006 Scottish researchers reported that in addition to classical music, music by the likes of Jim Hendrix, AC/DC and Red Hot Chili Peppers also helped students concentrate and boost memory. In the study published, two groups of people were asked to perform a memory test while listening to rock music and classical music. While the classical music improved the concentration and memory of both groups, rock music also had a significant effect on the cognitive performance of the rock fan. Brain scans revealed that they required far less brainpower to complete the test successfully. (Times, 2006) It is important to note that the benefits of listening to Rock music in the above example were specific to those participants that consider themselves Rock fans. This tryingly supports the argument that since I am listening to the kind of music I like, it is not serving as a distraction to my studies. Even if my studies were being compromised, there is plenty of evidence to support it may be th e result of issues not related to act of listening to music while studying. Music can help with academic success. Poor grades do not automatically reflect poor intelligence; they are often an outcome of lack of interest and lack of motivation in studying. (How does music affect the brain? 2012) As we look at some of the householders today their grades are slipping lower and lower, but as this book illustrates grades do not reflect poor intelligence, Just a lack in interest in the subject. This also illustrates that music helps with your memorization. In addition, music with stronger beats causes brain waves to resonate in such a way that is coordinated with the music. This brings about higher levels of alertness and concentration. Music in some ways can be and is very creative. This is also something music helps with. Bringing imagination and creativity into the equation will show that music promotes academic success. Scientists conducted a series of studies in the sass examining the influence of USIA on memory recall. The research supported the positive effects of background music when studying. The research also suggested that music, especially classical music, heightened arousal and mood, as it reduced blood pressure, heartbeat and stress. (Network, 2011) As this quote from the University of Phoenix shows, music has a positive effect on your mood and stress. When you are studying, you typically are stressed, and when you are stressed, you become unmotivated on doing your work, unmotivated for studying when the time comes and it needs to happen. The scientists drew a link between memory recall to musical tempo. A tempo of 60 beats per minute activates the right hemisphere of the brain, while the material being studied activates the left hemisphere of the brain. With both hemispheres activated, portion of study from the University of Phoenix, the professors concluded that the brain focuses on patterns. Some genres have a set and specific structure that repeats, and that some music genres that have too many repeated sections become distracting which in turn causes the urge to not study or do any sort of work.As I have thought more and more about this, I have come up with the some questions that need to be answered. How does music affect you? How does it affect your emotions and your productivity? Does Music help your body in anyway;ay? Music affects you in a multitude of ways and some of them include; when listening to music it reduces your blood pressure that helps calm you down, it is also a stress aid. Music also helps you concentration and attention when you are studying, it gives you a beat to follow, something to give you a pace to keep when studying.

Deductions surely come with this type of statement and Socrates and Plato provide thoughts of how a human can alter in order to under who they truly are. While many think the good life is approachable so many do non cognize how to acquire to that point in their lives. Platoââ¬â¢s ain apprehension of human nature introduces dualism which shows another option to populating the good life. Life has cardinal ends in it and in order to understand a personââ¬â¢s intent it has to be understood what Socrates meant when he said the statement Know thyself . To Socrates that meant a manner of accomplishing the good life. His two primary points of the good life were being ethical and holding self cognition ; the most of import tools to hold. The statement Know thyself has decisions such as how one should populate and what they should seek. The replies to these inquiries come from seeking God and pleasance and populating a moral and treated life ( Argosy. 2013 ) . Socrates believed that worlds obtain cognition through analysis of constructs and rational procedure will convey nonsubjective truths. Additionally. he believed that with addition in cognition comes increase in virtuousness ( King. 2009 ) . Half truths lead a individual to a route of non cognizing themselves to the full but when they use the societal. mental and physical cognition they have together they can larn who they genuinely are. Human alteration can non come without a individual recognizing a alteration is needed. Platoââ¬â¢s beliefs were more on rational beliefs than on centripetal beliefs and a theory of signifiers. In the theory of signifiers he believed psyches were reincarnated into another organic structure and the new organic structure may still hold remembrances of the past organic structure doing it hard for the psyche to grok ( King. 2009 ) . He had his ain metaphor the oculus of the soul where he felt the universe was perceived through memories. images that keeps the psyche from seeing the true world signifier. Besides. there were three types of psyches ; rational. appetitive and affectional. The rational is in the caput. appetitive in the intestine and affective in the thorax. He besides believed that we are all chained inside a cave unable to see the outside universe because we rely on senses alternatively of signifiers but we can get the better of this by get awaying imprisonment through ground.

How to Write the Revised GRE Analytical Writing Essays
How to Write the Revised GRE Analytical Writing Essays When people study for the GRE exam, they often forget about the two Writing tasks, the Analyze an Issue Task and the Analyze an Argument Task,Ã facing them on test day. Thats a big mistake! No matter how great of a writer you are, its important to practice these essay prompts before taking the exam. The GRE Writing Section is a doozy, but heres a brief how-to for writing the essays. How to Write the GRE Issue Essay: Remember that the Issue task will present an issue statement or statements followed by specific task instructions that tell you how to respond to the issue. Heres an example from ETS:Ã To understand the most important characteristics of a society, one must study its major cities. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position. First, choose an angle. The good news about the GRE Analytical Writing scoring is that you get to write about the issue from any angle. For example, you could do any of the following or choose an approach of your own:Agree with the issueDisagree with the issueAgree with parts of the issue and disagree with othersShow how the issue has inherent logical flawsDemonstrate the validity of the issue with comparisons to modern societyConcede a few points of the issue but refute the most important part of the claim Second, choose a plan. Since you only have 30 minutes, you need to make the best use of your writing time as is possible. It would be foolish to jump into the writing without scratching out a brief outline of the details and examples you want to include to make your strongest argument Third, write it. Keeping your audience in mind (faculty members and trained GRE graders), write your essay quickly and concisely. You can go back afterward to make changes, but for now, get the essa y written. You cant be scored on an empty sheet of paper. More Sample Issue Essays Write the GRE Argument Essay: The Argument task will present you with an argument for or against something and give you specific details about how you must respond. Heres a sample Argument task: The following appeared as part of an article in a business magazine. A recent study rating 300 male and female Mentian advertising executives according to the average number of hours they sleep per night showed an association between the amount of sleep the executives need and the success of their firms. Of the advertising firms studied, those whose executives reported needing no more than 6 hours of sleep per night had higher profit margins and faster growth. These results suggest that if a business wants to prosper, it should hire only people who need less than 6 hours of sleep per night. Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on these assumptions and what the implications are for the argument if the assumptions prove unwarranted. First, analyze the details. What facts are considered evidence? What is the offered proof? What are the underlying assumptions? What claims are made? Which details are misleading? Second, analyze the logic. Follow the line of reasoning from sentence to sentence. Does the author make illogical assumptions? Is the movement from point A to B logically rational? Is the writer drawing valid conclusions from the facts? What is the author missing? Third, outline. Map out the biggest problems with the prompts logic and your alternative rationale and counterexamples. Come up with as much evidence and support you can think of to support your own claims. Think outside the box here! Fourth, write it. Again, keep your audience in mind (which rationale would work best to convince a faculty member) write your response quickly. Think less about semantics, grammar, and spelling, and more about demonstrating your analytical skills to the best of your ability. Sample GRE Argument Essays The Analytical Writing Tasks in a Nutshell So, basically, the two writing tasks on the GRE are complementary in that you get to formulate your own argument in the issue task and critique anothers argument in the argument task. Please be mindful of your time in each task, however, and practice ahead of time to ensure your best score possible.

Evidence Based Practice in a Clinical Setting Essay
Evidence Based Practice in a Clinical Setting - Essay Example The evidence-based practice paradigm combines clinical expertise, patient preferences, and values, the surrounding clinical circumstances with the integration of the best scientific evidence (Salmond, 2007). The purpose of this paper is to apply evidence-based practice to the case of a patient and develop an effective patient care plan In order to apply evidence-based practice effectively there is a need for a critical evaluation of the patientââ¬â¢s health condition. It is also equally important that a thorough research is conducted by the health care provider (physician/nurse) in order to generate information that relates to best evidence practice (Bennett, & John, 2000). The research in most cases is conducted in absence of already established guidelines that are grounded on previous research and are used for purposes of integrating evidence-based practice into everyday clinical practice. It is this information that will be integrated with the clinicianââ¬â¢s expertise, pati ent preferences and values and the surrounding circumstances to develop a patient care plan that will optimize the outcomes and result in delivery of quality healthcare service (Schulman, 2008). Patient Profile The patient, in this case, is a 51-year-old male computer programmer who is mildly obese. Patient has a history of smoking and has been trying to quit for over 30 years. He has tried using nicotine patches to help him quit smoking but was unsuccessful. The patient is reluctant to use Bupropion because he holds certain reservations against that particular group of drugs (antidepressants). No diabetic complications with controlled blood sugar levels. Patient has osteoarthritis on both knees which harbor sporting injuries. The blood pressure according to the past two visits is mildly elevated (160/94 mmHg). The patient takes large doses of Vitamin E and Fish oil for his heart and glucosamine for his knees. The patient takes St. Johns Wort to assist him to stop smoking. Research It is of primary importance that the patientââ¬â¢s treatment goals be identified. The goals offer guidance on which areas need research promptly. The treatment goals for the patient include solving the patientââ¬â¢s smoking problem, understanding the patientââ¬â¢s mild hypertension and possible therapy, managing the obesity, and determining the best therapeutic approach that can be used to treat the patientââ¬â¢s osteoarthritis. The patient has a history of smoking that spans over 30years. Such a patient can be considered to be a heavy smoker. Many smokers have been associated with several failed attempts to quit smoking. This particular patient has tried the use of nicotine patches to assist him to quit smoking but was unsuccessful. According to Stead, Perera, Bullen, Mant, and Lancaster (2008), the single purpose of nicotine replacement therapy is to ease the transition from smoking cigarettes to complete abstinence from smoking. The nicotine temporarily replaces the n icotine from cigarettes thereby reducing the motivation to smoke and the overall withdrawal symptoms that are associated with abstinence from smoking.
